Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that the company’s next-generation self-developed chip is nearing release. He did not disclose a launch date, product name or technical specifications in the announcement.
The announcement came in a post reviewing Xiaomi’s second-quarter performance. Lei said the company’s research and development spending rose 18.9% year over year to RMB9.2 billion in the quarter. Xiaomi has not said which device will be the first to use the new chip. [TechNode reporting]
