Huawei and HP Inc. have signed a multiyear global patent cross-licensing agreement covering certain Huawei Wi-Fi patents, the companies announced on Aug. 26.

The agreement gives HP access to specified Huawei Wi-Fi technologies while providing Huawei with reciprocal patent rights from HP. The deal is focused on intellectual-property licensing and does not include details about any new hardware product or joint commercial project.

Wi-Fi standards are used across computers, mobile devices, household appliances and other connected equipment. Huawei said it has contributed to Wi-Fi technologies across successive generations. [TechNode reporting]
